Announcement from the Minister of Transport: Ben Gurion Airport Ready – Airlift Expected to Commence Shortly
At a special press conference held today at Ben Gurion Airport (June 24, 2025), Minister of Transport and Road Safety, Brigadier General (Res.) Miri Regev, announced a tangible expectation for a full return to normal operations at Ben Gurion Airport by this evening. According to her, all logistical preparations have been completed, airlines are gearing up to resume regular flights, and the entire system is ready for a broad reopening – pending the relevant directive from the security system. Minister Regev noted that several airlines – including Ethiopian, Tus Air, Bluebird, Red Wings, Flydubai, and Etihad – have already requested to resume operations at Ben Gurion Airport. She stated that once a general return to routine is approved by the Home Front Command, a large-scale airlift will commence, and Ben Gurion Airport will return to full functionality.
“We are ready. Our teams are ready. The airlines, pilots, flight attendants, airports – everyone is waiting to get started. The expectation is that in the coming hours, we will see activity resume at a very accelerated pace,” Regev said.
The Operation Unfolded – Step by Step:
Phase A: Emergency Evacuation
- Launched on Saturday night, June 13, 2025
- Evacuation of approximately 10,000 passengers within 13 hours
- Rescue flights from major European destinations and crew replacements from abroad
Phase B: Gradual Opening
- First regular landings at Ben Gurion and Haifa airports
- Operation of Halls 1 and 3 with safety restrictions
- Dedicated shuttle system to Israel Railways
Phase C: Expansion of Activity
- Over 30 flights per day
- Operating hours until 22:00 only
- Registration according to priority and operational guidelines
Phase D: Commencement of Outbound Flights
- On June 23, the renewal of flights from Israel abroad began
- On June 24, a significant increase in activity was reported
- Flights are being conducted to distant destinations – including Australia
