A severe tragedy occurred this morning (Thursday) in Ahmedabad, India: A Boeing 787-8 “Dreamliner” passenger aircraft operated by Air India crashed near the local airport just seconds after taking off for its destination, Gatwick Airport in London. According to official reports, there were at least 242 passengers and crew members onboard.
According to reports, this is the first-ever crash of a “Dreamliner” model aircraft, which entered service in 2009.
The footage is used under Section 27A. In the video released by Indian media, the aircraft is seen sharply diving over city homes before crashing and impacting the ground with great force, exploding into a massive fireball. Thick smoke rose from the site, and distress calls were heard at the scene.
Numerous emergency forces, including firefighting teams, ambulances, and police, were immediately dispatched to the scene, and a large-scale rescue operation is currently underway. At this stage, it is unclear if there are any survivors from the severe crash.
Air India confirmed that it was flight AI171, which was supposed to depart from Ahmedabad Airport to London. The company’s statement cautiously mentioned that the aircraft was “involved in an incident” without officially confirming the crash. “We are gathering details and will update when we can,” they stated.
According to data from the flight tracking website FlightRadar24, the last contact with the aircraft was received seconds after takeoff. Local police noted that the crash occurred in a civilian area outside the airport grounds, raising concerns about potential casualties among residents on the ground.
