The Israel Airports Authority Completes Its Preparations for the Day After
Israel Airports Authority Spokesperson:
The Return of International Airlines
Against the backdrop of the ceasefire in the north and the beginning of international airlines’ return to operations in Israel, and in accordance with the directive of Transport Minister Miri Regev, the Israel Airports Authority is completing its preparations for the day after. The preparations include hiring employees, upgrading systems, opening a new assisted passengers area and responding to airlines’ requests.
In recent days, since the ceasefire was announced, a trend of gradual return of international airlines to Israel has begun:
- Azerbaijan Airlines: has already resumed operations and operates two daily flights to Baku.
- Aegean Airlines: will resume operations on December 10 and operate one daily flight to Larnaca and two daily flights to Athens.
- Wizz Air: will resume operations from Terminal 3 on December 20, also operating a route to Larnaca. According to the airline’s announcement, additional destinations and flights will start operating from Ben Gurion from mid-January.
The Authority expects that as long as the ceasefire holds and crews feel safe, the wave of additional airlines returning to Israel will continue.
The “Day After Team”
The Israel Airports Authority set up a “day after team” to prepare for the return of international airlines. As part of this, talks were held with airline managements regarding return arrangements. The Authority committed to doing everything possible to expand the range of airlines and destinations and to respond to airlines’ requests that will make it easier for them to return to operations in Israel.
Upgrades at Ben Gurion Airport
- Terminal 1: an upgrade is being carried out to the baggage sorting system. The Authority announced that it will open the terminal for operations as needed, in line with the low-cost airlines’ commitment to a continuous return at significant volumes.
- Terminal 3: a new assisted passengers area will open, bringing all handling of assisted passengers from all airlines together at one central point. All handling of the departing passenger process will be carried out in the same terminal, including security screening, check-in and baggage drop.
Hiring at Ben Gurion
At the same time, the Israel Airports Authority is in the midst of a broad recruitment drive to strengthen its workforce at Ben Gurion, including hiring for security roles. The positions offer good pay, promotion opportunities and additional benefits.
