Israir’s Rescue Flights from Batumi: All the Details
Following the unusual weather that hit Batumi Airport, an Israir flight scheduled to depart on Saturday night was postponed. The reason for the delay was heavy snow that had piled up in the area, and the equipment needed to de-ice the aircraft’s wings wasn’t working properly. In response to the harsh weather conditions, the airport announced its complete closure, and all flights to and from the airport were canceled.
Today, with the weather improving, the skies reopened and rescue flights began departing. This morning (February 27), an Israir rescue flight took off at 09:00, and three more flights are planned during the day. In addition, Israir announced a plan to operate two more flights tomorrow.
As part of its commitment to its passengers, Israir arranged hotel accommodation at its own expense for passengers stranded in Batumi. The company stresses that even in cases of force majeure and unusual weather conditions, it puts passenger welfare at the top of its priorities.
This was extreme weather not recorded in Batumi for decades. Complex operations were carried out at the airport to improve conditions and ensure safety. Thanks to this, the first flight already took off this morning, and the company continues to operate additional flights to bring all passengers home safely and as quickly as possible.
