Old Acre is perfect for a day trip combining history, the sea, a market, and food, all within short walking distances. To truly enjoy it, arrive in comfortable shoes, leave time for the alleys, and choose two or three main sites in advance.
Where to Start Your Old Acre Tour?
The Visitors Center at the Enchanted Garden is a good starting point to get a map and information on operating hours. From there, you can continue to the Knights’ Halls, the market, the Templars’ Tunnel, and the port. It’s not necessary to see everything in one day.
The Classic Route in Old Acre
A convenient route passes through the Knights’ Halls area, continues through the market alleys, and reaches the mosque, the khan, and the port. The Templars’ Tunnel adds another perspective to the city’s story. Some sites require an entrance fee, and a combined ticket is sometimes available.
How Much Time to Dedicate?
Three to five hours will suffice for a focused visit. Those wishing to enter several sites, stop for a meal, and walk on the walls can dedicate a full day. On weekends and holidays, it’s advisable to arrive early due to crowds.
Parking and Arrival by Train
You can reach Acre by train and continue on foot or by local transport to the old city. For those arriving by car, parking lots are available around the walls, but their availability varies. It’s best to mark your parking spot and the way back to it in advance.
Important Tips for Your Visit
- The stone floor can be slippery, especially after rain.
- In summer, plan to visit indoor sites during the hottest hours.
- Opening hours and prices may change during holidays.
- Respect the residents and active religious sites.
Before arriving, it is recommended to check information, tickets, and accessibility on the official Old Acre website.
