Watch: “Safe Return” Operation Takes Off – First Rescue Flights Landed at Ben Gurion Airport This Morning
This morning (Wednesday), the first flights under the “Safe Return” operation landed at Ben Gurion Airport. The operation aims to bring back Israeli travelers stranded abroad due to flight cancellations following the closure of the airspace. The arrivals were greeted by Minister of Transport Miri Regev, Director General of the Ministry of Transport Moshe Ben-Zaken, and Director General of the Israel Airports Authority Sharon Kedmi.
The operation, led by the Ministry of Transport and Road Safety, the Israel Airports Authority, and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), is being conducted in a phased manner, aligned with security assessments, with a strong emphasis on the safety of passengers, air crews, and aircraft.
The first flight, operated by El Al from Larnaca, landed this morning at Ben Gurion Airport. The Israel Airports Authority reinforced its staff at the airport, and passengers underwent expedited border control and baggage collection. They were then transported to their personal vehicles waiting in nearby parking lots or via a shuttle and train service from Ben Gurion Airport to city centers across the country. An Arkia flight from Larnaca also landed this morning, with video clips of the takeoff attached.
Minister of Transport Miri Regev spoke with the aircraft’s captain, Nechama, before landing and said:
“We are waiting for you. Very excited to welcome the first rescue flight as part of ‘Safe Return’. We are preparing to complete the operation to bring all Israelis home. Land safely.”
Clear Instructions to the Public: Avoid Arriving at Ben Gurion Airport
The Israel Airports Authority emphasizes the importance of minimizing the time spent at Ben Gurion Airport due to the security situation. Therefore, the public is requested not to come to the airport for welcoming passengers and not to order taxis for passenger pickup.
For the convenience of arrivals, the Airports Authority has enhanced the shuttle service operating between the terminal and remote parking lots. Additionally, bus and train lines from the airport to city centers have been reinforced, in coordination with the Ministry of Transport.
