The national airline of Latvia, airBaltic, resumed its operations on the route between Riga and Tel Aviv this morning (September 4, 2025), with a flight that landed at Ben Gurion Airport earlier than expected. This follows a prolonged suspension due to the security situation in Israel.
Although the initial announcement from the company indicated a return to the route only towards the end of the month, it seems that a change in circumstances allowed airBaltic to advance its plans, and this morning the first flight from Latvia to Ben Gurion Airport took off.
The flights are operated using new-generation Airbus A220 aircraft, equipped with high-speed internet connectivity from Starlink, enabling real-time browsing during the flight. This represents a significant upgrade in passenger comfort, especially on international flights.
airBaltic’s move joins a series of European airlines gradually renewing their flight routes to Israel, reflecting renewed confidence in the Israeli market and a return to normalcy in the aviation industry.
The route between Riga and Tel Aviv operates seasonally over the years, serving as an aviation bridge between Israel and the Baltic states and Central Europe, as well as for tourists seeking easy access to Latvia and trips in Northern Europe.
