There is no single season that suits all of Vietnam. The country is very long, so the weather in Hanoi and Sapa can be entirely different from the conditions in Ho Chi Minh City and the central beaches.

Northern Vietnam

Hanoi, Halong Bay, and the mountainous regions experience a relatively cool winter and a hot, rainy summer. In Sapa, nights can be cold, and fog may affect visibility.

Central Vietnam

Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue are influenced by a rainy season different from the south. Storms and heavy rains may occur during some autumn months, so it’s important to check regional forecasts.

Southern Vietnam

The south is warm throughout the year and is roughly divided into dry and wet seasons. Even in the wet season, rain often appears in short bursts, but flooding and disruptions are possible.

Cross-Country Route

For a route from north to south, it’s essential to pack clothes for various climates. March and April are often considered a good compromise, but even then, consistent weather is not guaranteed.

Pre-Travel Checks

Forecasts, storms, and transportation services can change. Check up-to-date information for each stop on your route, not just the national forecast.
