This week, a special professional conference was held at Ben Gurion Airport, led by the Israel Airports Authority, with the participation of umbrella organizations for people with disabilities in Israel. The conference aimed to achieve one goal: to listen, learn, and make accessible – creating a respectful, accessible, and equal flight experience for every passenger.
Open Dialogue and Engagement with All Stakeholders
During the conference, a professional and open discussion took place, addressing key issues related to Ben Gurion Airport’s operations with assisted passengers. The dialogue was conducted in collaboration with representatives from ground services companies, El Al Airlines, and various organization representatives – including sharing important insights, answering participant questions, and presenting real-world cases.
Professional Tour: A Close Look at Transportation and Adaptation Processes
Participants embarked on a unique professional tour that included observing the unloading of a wheelchair from an aircraft in real-time by the transport division team, as well as a visit to the baggage sorting department – focusing on adaptations made for passengers with disabilities.
Existing Projects and Future Plans
The conference unveiled a series of new projects and exciting initiatives set to enhance the travel experience:
-
Guiding strips for the visually impaired throughout the terminal
-
Voice application for information accessibility
-
Dedicated service room for escorts and service animals
-
And most notably: the establishment of a new service lounge for assisted passengers, which will serve as a specially adapted, respectful, and comfortable service center.
Israel Airports Authority: Commitment to Action
According to Udi Bar Oz, Director of Ben Gurion Airport:
“Ben Gurion Airport – the gateway to the State of Israel – is committed to providing optimal service for all passengers. For assisted passengers, the commitment is doubled: understanding needs, maximum adaptation, and creating an equal flight path from terminal entry to boarding the aircraft.”
Not Just Accessibility – But Innovation, Sensitivity, and Collaboration
The entire conference was held under the theme “Innovation • Sensitivity • Accessibility”, serving as an excellent example of collaboration between public bodies, airlines, and associations – aiming to create a more accessible, sensitive, and advanced service experience for every passenger.
