New Update from El Al: Change in Carry-On Luggage Procedure
El Al Airlines has announced a significant change effective tomorrow, Tuesday, May 21, 2025, regarding the handling of carry-on luggage (trolley bags) on flights. It is important to note upfront: there is no change in the payment policy – one carry-on bag (trolley) weighing up to 8 kg remains included in the ticket price.
According to the update, passengers who purchased a Lite ticket (the most basic ticket) will still be allowed to bring a trolley bag, but from now on – the trolley will be transferred to the aircraft’s hold, instead of being placed in the overhead compartment. This change aims to streamline the boarding process and reduce congestion in the cabin.
El Al’s goal, as explained in the official release, is to enhance the boarding procedure and prevent unnecessary delays, while ensuring passenger safety and comfort.
What Does This Mean in Practice?
-
Passengers with a Lite ticket: Can board the plane with only a small personal item, such as a backpack or laptop bag, which fits under the seat.
-
Passengers with a Classic ticket or higher: Can bring a trolley into the cabin, subject to weight and size restrictions.
-
Trolleys of Lite passengers will be sent to the aircraft’s hold.
Who Can Still Bring Their Trolley into the Cabin?
-
Passengers who purchased a Classic ticket or higher.
-
Passengers with Silver status or higher in El Al’s frequent flyer club – can continue to bring their trolley on board as usual, even if they purchased a Lite ticket.
