Duty-Free Lands in Haifa: Layam to Operate Duty-Free Store at Haifa International Airport
Haifa International Airport continues to innovate and expand: Layam Ltd. has won the Israel Airports Authority tender and will operate the first duty-free store at the airport. The new store will serve international travelers and will cover an area of approximately 200 square meters.
The store will offer a wide range of duty-free products, including perfumes, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, electronics, and more. Similar to the duty-free stores at Ben Gurion Airport, passengers will be able to leave their purchases at the airport and collect them upon returning to Israel.
Construction work is expected to commence in the coming days, with the opening planned within a few weeks. The operation period is up to four years, with an option for a two-year extension.
Layam is one of the veteran companies in the duty-free sector in Israel, with extensive experience operating stores at airports and seaports in Haifa and Ashdod.
Haifa Returns to the International Map
Established in 1934 by the British, Haifa Airport is Israel’s oldest international airport and the third largest. Over the past year, the airport has undergone significant upgrades and has returned to full operation, including domestic and international flights.
The airport serves as the home base for Air Haifa, which operates flights to destinations such as Larnaca, Athens, and Ramon Airport. The company is expected to expand its operations, acquiring a fourth aircraft by September and a fifth by the end of the year.
Additionally, the airport offers helicopter flights to offshore gas rigs and private commercial flights to various destinations.
In light of increased activity, a new catering point is expected to open at the airport, alongside a dedicated tender by the Israel Airports Authority.
