Lufthansa Group Launches a New Service: Improved Baggage Tracking with AirTag
Good news for travelers: the Lufthansa Group is launching an innovative service that allows AirTags to be connected directly to its systems, giving passengers better tracking of their baggage. The upgrade will be implemented across all the group’s airlines, including Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, as well as ITA Airways, which recently joined the Lufthansa Group.
What Is an AirTag and How Does It Help Travelers?
AirTag is a small, round device from Apple that works as a location transmitter using Bluetooth and Ultra-Wideband technology. It lets users locate lost items via the Find My app on Apple devices such as the iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Many travelers use AirTag to track their suitcases in real time, especially on flights with layovers, where there’s a higher risk of baggage being lost or delayed. Until now, tracking was only possible via Apple’s app, but now, with the Lufthansa Group’s new service, the airlines’ staff can also see this information and respond quickly in case of a problem.
How Does the New Service Work?
As part of the upgrade, passengers on Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings and ITA Airways can register their AirTag number during check-in in the app of the airline they’re flying with. From the moment of registration, the baggage can be tracked in two places:
- In the Find My app – as before, passengers themselves can see where the suitcase is.
- In the Lufthansa Group’s systems – ground service staff and agents can quickly identify the baggage’s location and offer fast solutions in case of delay or loss.
What Are the Benefits for Passengers?
✅ Accurate, advanced tracking – you can see in real time where your baggage is, including confirmation that it was loaded onto the flight. ✅ Fast handling in case of loss or delay – ground staff can identify the suitcase’s location and provide an immediate solution. ✅ Less stress and worry – passengers get better control over their baggage and know whether it has reached its destination or whether there’s a problem. ✅ An improved flight experience – combining advanced technology with improved customer service raises the level of service across the group’s airlines.
The Lufthansa Group Leads Innovation in Aviation
The Lufthansa Group’s new service joins a list of technological innovations the airlines offer their passengers to make the flight experience easier, safer and worry-free. In recent years many airlines have been looking for technological solutions to improve service, and Lufthansa and its group of airlines show that they’re at the forefront of the field.
