Conditions for Ryanair’s Return to Israel

The airline Ryanair‘s return to Israel now hinges on three main conditions the airline has set for resuming its operations. During a discussion held by the Knesset’s Economic Committee, the company’s representative highlighted the necessary steps for Ryanair’s affordable flights to return to Ben Gurion Airport. Presented Conditions:

  1. Security Stability – According to the company’s representative, security stability is a key condition for the airline’s full return to operations in Israel, with an emphasis on ensuring the safety of passengers and crews.
  2. Amendment of Passenger Compensation Law – The Israeli law mandating compensation for customers in case of flight cancellations is seen by Ryanair as a significant obstacle. The company demands an adjustment of the legislation to align with the European model to enable efficient and economical operations.
  3. Opening of Terminal 1 or Reduction of Fees – According to the company’s representative, the high fees at Ben Gurion Airport hinder the operation of low-cost flights. Opening Terminal 1, which serves low-cost flights, or reducing the fees to the levels practiced at this terminal, would allow the airline to reintroduce approximately 10,000 seats per week to ten major destinations in the Israeli market.

The company’s representative noted that if these conditions are met, Ryanair would be ready to resume extensive operations in Israel. “If Terminal 1 is open, we can bring back ten thousand seats per week to 10 major destinations,” he said during the discussion. Will the company and the state reach an understanding that will bring Ryanair back to the Israeli aviation map? Time will tell.
