Outdoor film screenings, music performances, night swimming, sunset tours, stargazing, and family activities – the Nature and Parks Authority invites the public to close the summer vacation with a variety of events across the country. August is already in full swing, but the summer vacation is still here – and the Nature and Parks Authority invites families to make the most of the last weeks of summer with special activities in national parks and nature reserves. The activities take place in the early morning hours, at sunset, and in the evening, allowing visitors to enjoy nature even during the hottest time of the year.
In the North: Movies, Music, and Night Swimming
At the Yehiam Fortress National Park, a family evening will include a guided tour of the fortress and a film screening between the walls. At the Gan HaShlosha National Park, Sachne, a musical evening with the band The Daytrippers will feature the best of The Beatles, alongside a special evening swim. At the Arbel National Park, music performances will take place against the backdrop of the Sea of Galilee at sunset, alongside yoga activities at sunrise. Even at Tel Megiddo, Nahal Me’arot, Beit She’arim, and Susita, music evenings, tours, film screenings, and special evening activities are planned.
In the Center: Performances, Art, and Wellness by the Sea
At the Beit Guvrin National Park, the exhibition “The Eighth Sound” will be displayed in the Bell Caves – a video and sound installation by Ehud Banai and Ronen Tanchum. At Migdal Tzedek, a sunset evening with a Greek groove performance will take place, and at Tel Afek, performances by the lake will return after several years. At the Apollonia National Park, a Wellness experience will occur at sunset, featuring meditation, Tai Chi, a sound bath, and harp playing by the sea.
Also Outdoor Cinema
At Herodium Park, the film “Zootopia 2” will be screened, and at the Good Samaritan Site, cinema evenings will be held among the ancient mosaics. The goal is to transform heritage and nature sites into a nighttime entertainment experience suitable for families with children.
In the South: Sunrise at Masada, Stars in the Desert, and Perseid Nights
At Masada, visitors can ascend early in the morning by cable car to watch the sunrise, and in the evening, view the night show projected on the mountain’s slope. At Avdat, tours following the ancient wine industry, a musical performance, and a glass of wine at sunset will take place. At Hai-Bar Yotvata, stargazing and astronomy activities will be held, and at Tel Arad, an evening combining a tour, sunset, music, and a bonfire will occur. At the Mamshit National Park, a Perseid Night with a bonfire and guided stargazing and meteor observation will take place, and at Coral Beach, workshops and activities on the sea and reef will be held.
“Mysteries in Time” Game at 15 Sites
The Nature and Parks Authority also operates the game “Mysteries in Time” at 15 national parks and nature reserves. This is an interactive game via a WhatsApp bot, guiding participants between stations and puzzles while familiarizing them with the site’s historical story.
You Can Also Sleep in Nature
The night campsites of the Nature and Parks Authority are open during the summer from north to south, offering accommodation under the open sky. The authority recommends booking in advance, especially for those already planning a holiday during Chol Hamoed Sukkot, due to high demand.
In Short
If you’re looking for what to do with the kids until the end of the vacation, August offers plenty of options without spending the whole day in a mall or in front of the air conditioner. Performances, movies, evening tours, night swimming, stargazing, and sleeping in nature – the Nature and Parks Authority offers a wide range of activities across the country, some of which take place during the more pleasant hours of the day.
