Looking for a short guide to Prague? Here is what you need to know. Prague is a stunning, lively city. Beautiful views, a river, a big-city feel, shopping and Jewish history are only part of what it offers visitors.
Jewish Prague
Jewish history
Prague is known for the story of the Golem and for the Maharal. The Old-New Synagogue (the Altneuschul) and the Jewish cemetery can be visited during the day. Entry to the synagogue is paid, but visitors who want to join the prayers can get an entry permit from the community. Next to the synagogue stands the Jewish community building, topped by an unusual clock that uses Hebrew letters and runs from right to left.
You can also visit the Jewish Museum, which includes four former synagogue buildings and a ceremonial hall, none of them in active use, spread over two streets of the quarter. They display the museum’s collections: Judaica, photographs, books, documents and more. The museum complex also takes in the Jewish cemetery, where the Maharal, among others, is buried.
